hopeless romantic

isn't it funny that when her eyes start to shine and
her lips start to shiver and
her hands start to shake,
isn't it funny how she can be so young and
so old at the same time and
so happy and
sad and
scared?

i wanted to reach out and
hold her, i didn't want her to be afraid but
every time i got close my hand disintegrated.

she doesn't want any trouble,
she doesn't want to know your name any more than you want to see her broken.
her eyes won't meet yours so you can't see through those windows, but
it doesn't matter because
you can see through her skin,
you can see her
organs and
her heartache and
the battered soul that's fading,
                                          fading,
                                                    fading,
                                                              fading . . .

but when she walks into the rain
she glows a little brighter and
she smiles.
